Parent & Caregiver Training

You're with your child more than we are. We teach you what we're doing so the work doesn't stop when we leave. Parent training is built into every Southcrest treatment plan, not an extra you pay for.

What it is

We teach parents what we teach therapists

Parent training is a structured, ongoing part of every ABA treatment plan. Your BCBA meets with you regularly to explain what's happening in sessions, why, and how to use the same strategies in your day-to-day. It is not a generic parenting class. It is specific to your child, your routines, your goals.

We work on the things that are actually hard for your family. The morning routine. Bedtime. Meals. Sibling conflict. The grocery store. Whatever the friction points are, we break them down and teach you concrete strategies you can use without your therapist in the room.

Insurance treats parent training as part of comprehensive ABA, which means it's almost always covered alongside your child's therapy hours, with no separate cost.

Inside the program

What to expect

Most BCBAs run parent training in 30 to 60 minute sessions, often weekly or every other week. Some of it happens in your home alongside your child's regular session; some of it happens separately so you can focus.

Topics get picked by what you're struggling with. Your BCBA might walk through a behavior chain, give you scripts for specific situations, or coach you through a real routine in the moment.

FAQs

Questions families ask us

We schedule around your real life. Some BCBAs run training during your child's session (so you don't need extra childcare). Others schedule separately in the evening or on weekends. We make it work.

Mostly the strategies are designed for your autistic child, but a lot of the principles (clear expectations, consistent follow-through, reinforcement) work with siblings too. Many families report side benefits.

Real life happens. We don't penalize you, we just pick back up next time. Some sessions are critical (initial training, behavior plan rollouts); others are routine and can be made up.
